For detailed information about current language and other courses, as well as the current public lecture series, see Teaching. The Bachelor courses form part of degree programmes in Business Administration, Economics, International Affairs and Law. The Master courses also contribute to the University's degree programmes in these subject areas.
The Bachelor level courses typically focus on the close reading of literary texts, predominantly from the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The aim here is to foster students' skills in textual analysis and interpretation and to familiarise them with selected aspects of English-speaking cultures. In order to convey some of the great geographical and social diversity of these cultures, exemplary texts are often chosen from regions within the British Isles, North America and South Asia.
Courses at Master level are more interdisciplinary in character. They typically combine literary materials with historical surveys, socio-political topics, or themes related to students' main areas of study.
